Professional Piano Tuning

Call 540-429-6442 to schedule an appointment
Piano tuning is a complex and nuanced craft that combines science, technology, and musical artistry. It’s about matching pitches and creating a cohesive sound. Using both an electronic tuner and a trained pianist’s ear, I will bring out the best in your instrument.
Tuning involves precise adjustments to over 200 strings, each under significant tension. Achieving stability and musicality takes skill and experience.  Tuning pianos is as much an art as it is a technical skill.  As a tuner I offer:
  • A Trained Ear: Having played piano since childhood, and taught piano for over a decade, I’ve developed an acute sense for perfect unisons and octaves.
  • Understanding the Instrument: Every piano is different, and tuning requires adapting to its unique sound and characteristics.  I have tuned antique and modern pianos, studio uprights and consoles, and both studio and baby grand pianos.

Whether your piano is a concert grand or an upright, regular professional tuning is essential to maintaining its sound and longevity.  An instrument played casually in a home requires tuning 1-2 times a year, one played more frequently or used for teaching should be tuned 3-4 times per year.  A piano in a concert venue or church where playing is more intense yet sporadic will need to be tuned 4-6 times annually depending on the specific instrument, how well it holds a tune, and the environmental changes in the venue.

Pricing for 2025:
  • Standard pitch raise and tuning:
    • $120 for pianos tuned within the past 12 months
    • $160 for pianos not tuned for over a year
  • Evaluation of a piano prior to purchase:  $50
